Sequence explorer

First terms, differences and patterns.

For checking your work after you’ve tried it yourself.

Step 1:
Choose how to give it

A formula in n, a rule using earlier terms, or a list.

Step 2:
Type it in

In a rule, a1 means the previous term and a2 the one before.

Step 3:
Explore

Terms, differences, ratios and remainders, then Do it by hand.
What it does.
Lists the terms of a sequence from a formula, a rule or your own list, then lays out the differences between neighbours, the ratios and the remainders mod mm, so patterns are easy to spot.
When it helps.
Checking terms you computed, or testing a guessed formula against the real values.
What it won’t do.
Up to 40 terms, as exact fractions. It shows differences but never guesses a formula for you.
Example.
For n2n^2: 1, 4, 9, 16, and the second differences are all 2.
A formula in n

Whole numbers and fractions only, worked out exactly.
